A few weeks ago I recorded a conversation with Dan Miller, the author of well known books like 48 Days to the Work You Love and No More Mondays. Dan is a nationally recognized expert on helping people understand how to prepare and position themselves for more fulfilling work, and has been encouraging people to press forward during the recession.
Dan's message to press forward during the recession resonates with me and the opportunities for social media to help individuals and businesses. Since social media tools are so accessible, there's never been more opportunity to try new things and experiment with new ways to promote your business. For some people, this may be just the excuse you need to try social media in an otherwise reluctant company.
From a marketing standpoint, many businesses are pulling back right now. The opportunity for you, then, is to advance. If you're a David among Goliaths, you should be running hard to get ahead because man Goliaths are retreating right now. Don't be afraid to try social media tools to promote your business, but be sure you also take the time to understand how they work.
If you're one of the Goliaths, you should be thinking about how to keep going during this time while many Davids will be trying to catch up.
Regardless of which you are, don't back down during the recession. Use it as an opportunity to start doing new things that will help you reach the right people for your business. Enjoy the conversation with Dan.
By the way, I totally fumbled Dan's question about which blog post sparked my thinking on this topic. It was this post.
